Join me and others this coming Friday for a FULL LISTENING&VIEWING DEBUT of the final musical storytelling piece for my project Soundmapping Our 5 Square Miles, which takes inspiration from creative responses to people’s home soundscapes from all over Wales over the last three seasons.
It begins with a sound journey (audio only) into a cave of the imagination; moves on to an original story about a girl who becomes Wales’s most unusual song-collector; then into a re-telling of the folk-tale Cantre’r Gwaelod (the connection will become apparent); and lastly, a performance that brings our collective Sound Map back to life, with cello, voice and loop pedal.
So much work has gone into this epic project - with the fantastic filming skills and flexibility of Ashley Leung (Tiny House Creatives), storytelling mentoring with Lisa Schneidau, wild sound recordings and some film footage by Ben Porter, preparatory art guidance and soundmaps by Penny Tristram, sound technology assistance by Badger Brown, incredibly generous translation and Welsh language support from Annie Suganami, awesome performances by storytellers Bevin Magama and Fiona Collins and musician Bethan Lloyd in our October Cawl Carreg event, and the contributions of participants from all over Wales, who sent it their own drawings, words and sound recordings to become part of this.
