Every time someone sends me something for the sound-map I get SOOO excited! I wanted to share some of the contributions so far so you can see how varied they are - and should be!

one of my early soundmaps, done from my bedroom window in Machynlleth on a stormy day, 'longing for a gust of wind to blow the noise of traffic away'

Every time someone sends me something for the sound-map I get SOOO excited! I wanted to share some of the contributions so far so you can see how varied they are - and should be!

Just to recap, the invitation is to send in DRAWINGS (which can be very very abstract lines and squiggles OR 'figurative' depictions of what you are hearing in your 5 mile radius, eg drawing the birds or trees etc around you...)

WRITINGS in response to the sounds you here in your 5 mile radius - which can be notes on what you are or think you are hearing, OR free-flow words that come as you are listening

RECORDINGS - you can make short recordings on your phone or other portable device, which I will then put up on the Wild Notes Wales Soundcloud page so that others can share your soundscape!

You are also invited to draw and write in response to others' recordings which have been shared through the Wild Notes Wales Soundcloud page from all around Wales...

...AND there is also the option to write and draw from your MEMORY of soundscape around your home, or a home you have connected to deeply in Wales, whether or not you now live there.

So, lots of flexibility to join in... I would be overjoyed if you wanted to take part!

See my post HERE for optional, more detailed instructions on soundmapping

CYMRAEG YMA!

a sound map made by Sarah Roberts, Aberystwyth, during the project's workshop with visual artist Penny Tristram, exploring different ways of making marks on paper in response to sounds we could hear from our homes there and then.

this one was done by Rosemary Hughes in Monmouth, during the project's WILD SOUNDSCAPE ID workshop with Ben Porter, when we were responding to an exercise of listening to different excerpts of birdsong in a video Ben had made during Spring 2020 on the Llyn Peninsula. The graphic lines drawn directly in response to sound also naturally make good material to musically!

Sound map from storyteller Cath Little, by the river Taff in Cardiff... You can mix drawing and words to go with it!

MORE SOON... KEEP THEM COMING!
